I'm a simultaneous interpreter and can probably give you some insights.

Go ahead with translation if you like to work with documents and like to type and have time to think or ponder to use the best words.

Go ahead with interpretation if you like to travel, get to new venues and places, and can arrange words from one language into another in your head, with some help of small notes. This, you can ask the speaker to clarify your doubts to be able to put things into context.

Go ahead with SIMULTANEOUS interpretation if you can put words from one language into another in seconds, understand the nuances, the various idioms and expressions, know the various terms and definitions specific to the subject, like to solve problems in a couple of seconds, able to cope with various foreign accents, able to understand and catch the context spoken by fast speakers, all these without the ability to ask the speaker to repeat and yet making it understandable to the listeners in another language.

For simultaneous interpreatation we usually have a two-person team because it can get very brain-wrecking. For me, simultaneous is fun. I like the challenge. And once, for a two-day conference on law-enforcement, I did it all alone.
