บางคนคงสงสัยเวลาดูสารคดีสัตว์โลกว่าทำไม "Orca" ที่ดูยังไงก็เหมือน "โลมา" มากกว่า "วาฬ" ถึงถูกเรียกว่า "วาฬเพชฌฆาต (Killer Whale)" ?
คำตอบ คือ เกิดจากข้อผิดพลาดในการแปลสลับตำแหน่งของคำอย่างผิดๆ (Mistranslation) ที่ใช้เรื่อยมาจนปัจจุบัน

กะลาสีสเปนในสมัยโบราณนั้นสังเกตการล่าของโลมาใหญ่ชนิดนี้ว่ามีรูปแบบออกล่าเป็นกลุ่มและเลือกเหยื่อประเภทวาฬ ทำให้พวกเขาเรียก Orca อีกชื่อหนึ่งในภาษาสเปนว่า "
Ballena Asesina (Ballena = Whale; Asesina = Assassin) " หรือแปลเป็นภาษาอังกฤษว่า "Whale Killer (ผู้สังหารวาฬ)" แต่พอเวลาผ่านไปเป็นร้อยปี เกิดการแปลสลับตำแหน่งคำอย่างผิดๆ เป็น "Killer Whale (วาฬนักฆ่า/วาฬเพชฌาต)" ทำให้โลมาใหญ่ชนิดนี้ถูกเข้าใจผิดเป็นวาฬโดยปริยายนั้นเองครับ
