A recent study from the New York Times analyzed cell phone data for the cities 8.5 million residents; showing 420,000 people have fled the Big Apple since March 1st; many citing the Coronavirus, shutdown order, and protests as the biggest factor.
“Hundreds of thousands of New York City residents, in particular those from the city’s wealthiest neighborhoods, left as the coronavirus pandemic hit, an analysis of multiple sources of aggregated smartphone location data has found,” reports the New York Times.
“My husband and I love New York City,” said one resident. “We sacrificed a lot to live here.
“We’re watching the warning signs,” she added.
“I had never felt an energy like that before, like the city was on the brink of something, and I don’t know what it is,” she said. “I was like, ‘We need to get out of here right now.’
