5 animals are going towards the river:  a rabbit, two monkeys, two parrots.

In the first sentences:  1 rabbit saw 6 elephants while going to the river, it was the rabbit that was going to the river.  The 6 elephants were not going to the river.  If they were, the sentence would have been:  1 rabbit saw 6 elephants going to the river.
