Four to eight years, Philippines can beat Thailand" - Coach Tai Bundit
SINGAPORE -- Tai Bundit offered a gem of an advice to the Philippine Team in its return to the Southeast Asian arena after a decade of absence.
It needs to come up with better training, more exposure and -- of course -- play happy.
"I believe Philippines will be back to the Southeast Asian Games every time," said Bundit, the National Team consultant who is one of the prime movers behind Thailand's resurgence in the international volleyball scene.
"Look at Thailand, it is now one of the better teams in the world. I think the Philippines can also do that if it will keep on training and play happy."
The Philippines opened its bid in the biennial meet at the OCBC Arena here on a sour note after losing to Indonesia in three sets; 22-25, 20-25, 14-25, on Wednesday before bouncing back with a masterful conquest of Malaysia;Â 25-15, 25-18, 25-16, on Thursday.
The Filipinos will get a breather on Friday before buckling down to work in a highly-crucial match against powerhouse Vietnam -- the silver medalist in the 2013 SEA Games in Myanmar.
Bundit reiterated that it will take at least four to eight years before the Philippines could blossom into a solid title contender.
"In four to eight years, they can beat Thailand," he said. "All they need is to have a system, play as a team, continious exposure and play happy -- and do some meditation, too
