on may 26, 1952, the supreme Court announced in Burstyn v. wilson that motion picture were "a significant medium for the communication of idea," designed" to entertain as well as to inform." The effect of this decision was to protact movies under  the first Amendment , which meant fewer legal restrictions on a what a movie could show.
