Indonesia has formed a partnership with the Telecom Infra Project (TIP) and Meta Connectivity (Meta) to develop the Indonesian digital ecosystem, including the metaverse.
Johnny G. Plate, Minister of Communications and Information Technology/Menkominfo, said Indonesia is now accelerating its digital transformation by developing its digital ecosystem and capabilities.
This collaboration stems from the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Telkom University, TIP and Meta at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2022 in Barcelona, Spain.
“This collaboration will encourage local industries to use metaverse technology and Indonesians will be able to leverage the metaverse,” Johnny said in an official statement.
Dan Ribnovitsj, Vice President of Meta Connectivity, expressed support for collaboration in product building and the development of open technologies and metaverse ecosystems in Indonesia.
“Now what we need is Open Innovative Research and Innovative Engineering Meta, ready and open to collaborate and continue to play a role in Indonesia,” Ribnovitsj said.
According to him, local manufacturers are needed for Open RAN and Open WIFI in Indonesia to develop a digital ecosystem.
"Meta wants to support this collaboration and work with the government. Meta has a blue print called Evenstar, which can be used as a reference for establishing local producers for Open RAN," he said.
meanwhile For the preparation of Indonesian digital talent, TIP and Telkom University will develop training and certification programs.

"We will support the Ministry of Communications and Information, TIP and Telkom University in developing training and certification programs to prepare digital talent in Indonesia," he said.
Adiwijaya, Chancellor of Telkom University, welcomed the cooperation. This is proof that Telkom University's focus is on developing technologies, including the metaverse.
