Please Help Me Settle Down in Pittsburgh, PA.

Hello Everyone,

I’m a Thai male professional currently working in Thailand.  I used to live in the US before I moved back to Thailand about five years ago.  I'm getting a job in Downtown Pittsburgh, PA, and planned to relocate to the US around the middle of this December.  The problem is that I have never been to Pittsburgh before and don’t know anyone there.  I read the city info from the internet and still would like to get advice from those, who are living or have lived there before, to help me settle down quickly.

I have questions as follows:

- What part of the city should I be living for both renting an apartment and buying a house?  From the internet, the good areas are Shadyside, Squirrel Hill, Oakland.  However, it looks like the renting and housing in those areas are high.

- I planned to temporarily live in a shared house/apartment to get myself familiar with the areas before moving to an apartment or even buying a house.  I have been aware that finding such places from Craigslist would be the way.  However, if possible, I prefer living with Thai people as I feel more secure/comfortable.  Are there any Thai community websites or places to find posts for the shared house/apartment?  The closest one is for Philadelphia.

Or, probably, I should go share an apartment with Thai students (University of Pittsburgh or Carnegie Mellon University)?  But, how could I find the websites, where they are looking for roommates?

- Any other advice you could give would highly be appreciated.

Thank you, krub.
