What is the meaning of '(at) odd times'?

Let me try asking question in English for the sake of my learning.

I just by chance found it used in a book I read yesterday and couldn't make of its meaning. Now I presumably take it as meaning something like 'from time to time, sometimes, chance or opportunity'.
Could someone please tell me what its exact meaning is?
