International tourism creates tension rather than understanding between people from different cultures. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?(DRAFT1)
It is undeniable that the world, currently, have become border-less. Subsequently, people travel more and more. It seems to be a good sign as it means international tourism, but ironically, it provokes tension instead of understanding among people and our country becomes the one who suffers. Thus, in my opinion, international tourism leads to the cultural conflicts due to cultural differences and can unexpectedly have hidden terrorism motivation behind tourism.
On the one hand, some people might say that international tourism can be the main sort of our country’s income. In fact, tourists will flow the domestic economic circulation as they spend billions of Thai Baht on buying services such as hotels, restaurants, and public tourist attractions. However, with their financial power, visitors do ignore the rules and regulations. It is obvious that those services place are distorted continuously. For example, some Chinese tourists after eating rapidly went out despite paying bills yet because they think that as long as they are a tourist, they can do everything our country has to serve them. Thus, instead of gaining money, we even not complete costs. It is equivalent to gain “nothing”. Moreover, it can be said that they are vandalism not only in cultural wise, but our country’s security image that are going to be discussed in the following paragraphs.
The international tourism can trigger cultural and practice conflicts. Indeed, each country has its own cultures and practices, plus the fact that they are sensitive, yet most powerful. When it comes to where has people from different cultural backgrounds, the cultural conflicts will be aroused. To illustrate, Thai people ,especially who believe in Buddhism, will feel uncomfortable when foreigners play around with the molds of the Buddha. For another example, Chinese cultures in eating absolutely differ from Thai’s that Thai people must eat quietly and politely while Chinese people eat loudly to show how delicious dishes are. Obviously, the Thais and Chinese will scold each other when they see the other eating culture. As a result, international tourism will trigger for the disputes as the visitors’ cultures and local’s do not match.
Another reason supporting my statement is that tourism can be twisted to be sort of terrorism. Some tourists may be criminals who intentionally go to other countries to problematize targeted countries and cause chaos. For instance, last year, the Central World, a famous mall in Thailand, was deliberately bombed, but the point is that the bombers were foreign who came to Thailand as a group of tourists, yet having terrorism motives behind a mask of visitors. Consequently, Thailand lost reliability in security, including millions of tourists as some of them are scared of getting injuries. It will automatically mean that Thailand lost the main income. Thus, it is clearly stated that terrorists can take advantage of being a group of tourists to cause problems.
In conclusion, it is true that international tourism is a main source of revenue of our country; nonetheless, it invokes cultural conflicts and can be twisted to be terrorism. It is time that we should ask ourselves whether are we happy of having nothing from tourism, but damages.
