“Imagination is more important than knowledge.” Do you agree or disagree?
Imagination is the ability to form a mental image of something that is not perceived through senses. It is the ability of the mind to create mental senses, things, and events that do not exist or happen. In contrast, knowledge is the awareness and understanding which comes from experience or learning. There is still a controversial issue between these words; which one is more important. However, after a careful consideration, it is true that imagination is more essential than knowledge.
To begin with, some people might say that, without knowledge, imagination cannot go anywhere. To clarify,if you are creative, but you are illiterate, you will not be able to recount or portray a beautiful story. Also, if you are innovative, yet without knowledge, you will not be able to put to work. Nevertheless, knowledge is fixed while imagination is more flexible and interesting because it provokes creativity, distinction, and vividness. Thus, these factors lead to the massive power of imagination which strengthens my grounds that will be discussed in the following paragraphs.
The first reason I agree with the statement is that imagination is crucial for success in any field. The scientific theories and all related fields are only considered as commonly known knowledge, but the paths breaking and distinct inventories or discoveries are recognized by those who are defiant to imagine something that have never been thought before. For instance, the Wright brothers first invented the air fixed wing from their imagination or J.K Rolling who wrote the unique plot of story by combining fictional and fantasy into the story-line. As a result, they have been realized and commended as the pioneer in their fields.
Another reason supporting my point is that imagination is a responsible factor to develop human’s thinking. Since imagination urges us to try to come up with ideas or brainstorm, it would help us to further and broaden our thoughts. Thus, it leads to creativity and uniqueness. For example, in a kindergarten class, kids are learned to create buildings from playing dough which come from their imagine or dream. Therefore, their thinking and creativity are invoked and built through free imagination.
In conclusion, the reasons why imagination is more important than knowledge are being a key to success in any field and the power in boosting humans’ thinking. Personally, I think that we should consider both pros and cons of knowledge and imagination wisely and deliberately and decide what ways are most beneficial to develop our world.
