As part of my effort to help these children and caregivers, I challenge the entire community to get behind this cause and help match my gift by raising an additional $2 million to support all of these brave and inspiring children,' Jennifer said in the clip.
The Joy actress's mother Karen and father Gary - who used to run a children's summer camp - were at the hospital on Friday, speaking to the press about the daughter's donation.
Jennifer Lawrence is donating $2 million to Kosair Children’s Hospital in Kentucky, it was announced on Friday. Check out the video announcement below!
The Oscar winner’s generous gift was revealed at a press conference held at the Louisville medical center about the hospital’s plans to redevelop its heart center. Lawrence was not personally in attendance, but her family was there when it was announced that her $2 million donation will bring the hospital’s fundraising campaign closer to its total goal of $25 million. The money will be used not just to renovate the facility’s critical care center, but also build a new cardiac ICU.
In a pre-taped video message recorded for the special announcement, Lawrence says, “Hi, I’m Jennifer Lawrence. I’m excited to announce we will be establishing the Jennifer Lawrence Foundation Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital. As part of my effort to help these children and caregivers, I challenge the entire community to get behind this cause and help match my gift by raising an additional $2 million to support all of these brave and inspiring children.”
As Gossip Cop has reported, Kosair Children’s Hospital is near and dear to Lawrence’s heart. Last December, the Kentucky native visited the medical center for the third year in a row to spread Christmas cheer to sick kids who would be spending the holidays at the facility. She now says in a statement, “My family and I have met so many wonderful children on our visits to the hospital. Their strength and courage is inspiring. I challenge everyone to give whatever they can to raise an additional $2 million to help.”
Thomas D. Kmetz, the division president of Women’s and Children’s Services and Kosair Children’s Hospital, further says, “We are equally thankful that she has put her trust in the outstanding work taking place at Kosair Children’s Hospital every day by challenging the community to join her in support of our heart care program.”
According to a release, “The Jennifer Lawrence Foundation Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) will feature private rooms dedicated to children recovering from heart procedures, open heart surgery including heart transplant, heart failure and other conditions requiring intensive care. The new 14-bed unit will offer space for families to stay with their children. It will be staffed by additional specialists with cardiac critical care training and experience, dedicated nursing staff and other professionals focused solely on heart care.
