Wat Pan Tao
If you were visiting to Chedi Luang Temple ,you should come and visit to Pantao Temple as well. Why? because it is just on the right beside of Chedi Luang Temple .
Transportation
Today we went to Pantao Temple from Chainmail Rajabhat University by motorcycle . Normally It doesn’t take it so long about 15 minutes on the way but today because of a weekend so, there are many travelers visit to the temple that make us delay about 30 minutes .
How to get to the Wat PanTao
The Wat Phan Tao is located close to the center of the old walled part of Chiang Mai just South of Ratchadamnoen road. The main entrance is on Phra Pok Klao road that runs North to South through the old city. The temple is located directly next to the better known Wat Chedi Luang. You can get there by tuk-tuk (agree on the price before leaving) or by rented bicycle.

By car, it’s very easy to get to Wat Pan Tao
If you go there by red car you can the view around city together and the red car is popula transportation for the people in country
The history
Pun Tao Temple is located on the Phrapokklao strees and it is located near the JD Luang Temple.
The word “Pun Tao” means the thousands of road deeds that if you make a merit at the temple, you will be very happy.
In the past, the temple used to be the landscape of JD luang temple. It was the location for thousand furnaces for the building of statue of Buddha building which is in the JD Luang temple. In 2418, during the King Intavichayanon’s period he is willing to build the beautiful teak house of King Mahotaraphathet for the temple and the house is the Buddha image hall nowadays.

1> The name of Pantao Temple mean “MONASTERY OF A 1000 KILNS” . The name is refer to the casting of numerous Buddha images for its even bigger neighbor. Chedi Luang Temple is located right the next door .
2> Pantao Temple is different from other places in Chaing Mai that here you will see a nicely designed wooden temple with the Buddha Statue in it. The viharn was originally the palace “Gilded hall” of Chiang Mai’s king named Chao Mahawong who ruled from 1846-1854 and was reassembled here, and today functions as a monastery.
3> Pantao Temple means thousand of stoves.It derived from the legend that told about this area was originally located the Buddha images crucibles and stoves for Chedi Luang temple.

Pantao temple is a small temple where have some important buildings such as The viharn it was formerly a palace residence. King Inthavichayanontha the 7th King of Chiang Mai dynasty dedicated the pavilion to be a viharn, so it’s not just a beautiful place, it’s also an example of pavilion in Lanna Style . This vihran’s a huge teak building decorated with carving wood gold gilded and colorful glass. The hilight’s on the the pediment over in the front door, it’s a peacock carving covered with Chedi and Nagas,others interesting things are carving pediment over windows and gable ends.

There are many activities that you can joy at the Pun Tao Temple. The First, you can see the unseen in Chaingmai in Loi Krathong’s festival, which is the copying of decoration by the many of Phang Prateeps; candles. At the Loi Krathong’s day, you can light the Phang Prateeps and float lanterns. Because we believed that the floating lanterns to have brought grim disaster kite from the our so we are lucky. Next, the temple have important religion activities that you can make a merit such as Visakhabucha day, Makhabucha day and Asarnlahabucha day. The temple also is willing to people make a merit at the temple and appreciate in the amazing teak wihan every day.
