US Senator Orrin Hatch, senator for Utah and President pro tempore of the US Senate, praised the princess's achievements & wished her a happy birthday.
US Senator Orrin Hatch has praised HRH Maha Chakri Sirindhorn for her life-long dedication to help Thais, especially underprivileged people.
Speaking in the US Senate on the occasion of the princess's 60th birthday, Sen Hatch, a senator for Utah, described HRH as a "Princess Angel".
He added: "She is known for her life-long dedication to the cause of humanitarianism, education and human development, especially for the disadvantaged and marginalised, in Thailand and beyond."
"I am sure my colleagues in this chamber will join me in paying tribute to her remarkable contributions.
"Through her selfless dedication and hard work for the benefit of humanity, she has earned love and respect from the Thai people and those beyond Thailand, including the United States," Sen Hatch said.
He told Congress that HRH Princess Sirindhorn has followed in her parents' footsteps by travelling across the country to help marginalised people.
In addition to more than 100 development projects in which she is involved, she is also the president of the Thai Red Cross Society and chairwoman of the Prince Mahidol Foundation, which bestows globally recognised awards for achievements in public health and medicine.
Sen Hatch also praised the princess for expanding her charity projects to encompass education, and helping improve childrens' access to education to better their opportunities in life.
"Her approach and philosophy in these endeavours are deeply rooted in human rights and self-sufficiency," he told Congress.
"Therefore, I wish to join them in celebrating this auspicious occasion of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn's 60th birthday anniversary and wishing her happiness, good health and longevity."
