New York City is one of the greatest cities in the world, so it’s no surprise that those who resid

tend to strive for the best things that life has to offer.
While at times New Yorkers may be a little over the top, several chefs across the city are really going overboard as they compete to create some of the most outrageous, not to mention, most expensive dishes in NYC.
As the saying goes, “ you get what you pay for”, and by using rare ingredients that range from edible gold leaf and rare truffles to expensive caviar, these high rolling restaurants charge top dollar for their extravagant culinary creations.
1. Westin Hotel Bagel
If you thought a $7 New York City bagel was expensive, you’ve never seen the gilded bagel at the Westin Hotel in Time Square. This trendy hotel put Chef Frank Tujague to work and created an extravagant $1,000 blinged out bagel breakfast featuring a whole wheat bagel topped with mascarpone Alba white truffle cream cheese and goji berry-infused Riesling jelly that is then sprinkled with edible golden leaves. While this extravagant bagel is bad for your bank account, all of the proceeds at least go towards a good cause, helping to fund the Les Amis d’Escoffier Scholarship Fund for culinary students.
2. Golden Opulence Sundae
For a dessert that’s worth its weight in gold, stop by Serendipity III to experience the “Golden Opulence Sundae”. Created to celebrate Serendipity’s 50th anniversary, this outrageous ice cream sundae is served in a $350 Baccarat Harcourt crystal goblet featuring the finest Tahitian vanilla ice cream infused with Madagascar vanilla that is wrapped in 24-karat edible gold leaf and then drizzled in a mixture of world’s rarest Amedei Porcelana and Venezuelan Chuao chocolates.
To finish it off, this dessert is topped with gold coated almonds, candied fruits from Faucho, chocolate truffles, marzipan cherries, Grand Passion caviar and a gilded sugar flower. While this dessert may deplete your pockets, they at least give you the goblet so you won’t go home empty-handed.
3. Zillion Dollar Lobster Frittata

Make your way over to Norma’s in the Le Parker Meridein Hotel to experience the ultimate breakfast of champions. This place dishes out the world’s most expensive omelet, dubbed the “Zillion Dollar Lobster Frittata”- and for a good reason, since getting your hands on one of these will set you back $1,000.
This over-the-top omelet is cooked up with one pound of lobster in a mixture of eggs, cream and chives that rests atop a bed of fried potatoes and is then topped with 10 ounces of exclusive, and expensive, sevruga caviar. If you’re not trying to shell out a zillion dollars, you can get a toned down version of this lobster omelet for a tenth of the cost at just $100.
4. 12-Inch Luxury Pizza
For a high price pie that will take a slice out of your wallet, make your way over to Nino’s Bellissima. This pizzeria created a serious upgrade on the dollar slice, while also adding a few zeros onto its cost. For $1,000 you can get your hands on the 12-inch “Luxury Pizza”, which features over $800 worth of 4 different types of rare caviar, sliced Maine lobster and crème fraiche, topped with salmon roe, chives and wasabi paste. Yum!
5. Proposal Martini
For a martini that you definitely won’t find on the list of happy hour specials, stop by Blue Bar in the legendary Algonquin Hotel. This dimly lit, chic lounge serves up a dazzling spin on this classic cocktail dubbed the “Proposal Martini”. However, at a price of $10,000 for one glass, it’s not just expensive top-shelf liquor that jacks up the price of this luxurious drink. As a finishing touch, this martini is topped off with a carefully selected diamond engagement ring from the hotel’s in-house jeweler Bader & Garrin. Cheers!
6. Frrrozen Haute Chocolate
If the Golden Opulence Sundae wasn’t extravagant enough, don’t worry there’s more on the menu. Instead, you can opt for Serendipity III’s even more over-the-top dessert: “Frrrozen Haute Chocolate”. Boasting a hefty price tag of $25,000, this outrageous dessert has claimed the Guinness Book of World Records title as the most expensive sweet treat in the world.
This decadent dessert is made from a blend of 28 of the world’s finest cocoas infused with five grams of edible 23-karat gold that is topped with whipped cream, more edible gold and a La Madenline au Truffle on the side. But it doesn’t stop there, this magnificent menu item is then placed in a gold-lined baccarat Harcourt crystal goblet and comes with a souvenir 18-karat gold and diamond bracelet as well as a gold and diamond laden spoon that is yours to keep. Happy eating!
