The graph illustrates changes in domestic access to modern technologies in the UK from 1996 upto seven years after.
It is apparent from the chart that domestic usage for all technologies has gradually increased. There was a dramatic rise in CD players and personal computers, which were recorded from 1996 to 2003. Likewise, the trend for internet access went upward, from 10% in 1998 to more than 40% in 2003. Mobile phone usage fluctuated a little but was still on the rise.
Between 1996 and 2003, home computers usage gradually climbed up from 30% to just over 50% by 2003. Similarly, CD players accessibility steadily gained about 23%, rising from 60% to 83% in domestic use. Mobile phones, however, started with just only 18% usage but increased to 70% by 2003, surpassing that of home computers at the beginning of 1999. By contrast, the percentage of internet access went up dramatically, from 10% to 43% in the last year of the survey.
Overall, domestic uses of the four technologies steadily increased, with the percentage of mobile phone usage and internet access making a dramatic surge. On the other hand, CD players and home computers rose together in a constant fashion.
